About Wasting Light : Foo Fighters' seventh studio album . It was released on April 12, 2011 on Roswell and RCA Records . It is the first album to feature rhythm guitarist Pat Smear since 1997 . Foo Fighters recorded in the garage of frontman Dave Grohl in Encino, California, using only analog equipment . The sessions were produced by Butch Vig, with Grohl working on Nirvana's Nevermind . The band spent three weeks rehearsing the songs . Wasting Light was preceded by the successful single "Rope", which became only the second song ever to debut at number one on Billboard's Rock Songs chart . Promotion included the documentary Back and Forth and a worldwide concert tour . It had a contribution from notable artists like Pat Smear. It had an affiliation to bands - Foo Fighters. Its music is influenced by genres - alternative rock post-grunge hard rock.
