About Ride the Lightning : Metallica's second studio album released in 1984 . The title was taken from Stephen King's novel The Stand . The artwork depicts an electric chair being struck by lightning flowing from the band logo . Metallica promoted the album on the Bang That Head That Doesn't Bang European tour . Elektra Records signed Metallica to a multi-year deal and reissued the album . Kill 'Em All was released on Megaforce Records in 1983 . The band formed a thrash metal subgenre of heavy metal . Metallica began composing new material in September . It had a contribution from notable artists like Flemming Rasmussen. It had an affiliation to bands - Metallica. Its music is influenced by genres - thrash metal.
