About Carol of the Bells : Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914 and lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky . The song is based on the Ukrainian folk chant "Shchedryk" The music is based on a four-note ostinato and is in 3/4 time signature . The ringer of the B-flat bell, though, feels it in 6/8 time . He was educated as a priest in the Kamianets-Podilskyi Theological Seminary . With the independence of the Ukrainian state in 1917 he moved to Kyiv where he worked at the Kyiv Conservatory .
