About Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk : Jeff Buckley was dissatisfied by material recorded during the first block session . He then continued working on demo recordings to refine his sound . The only posthumous album of polished studio tracks and demos recorded by Television frontman Tom Verlaine in 1996 and early in 1997 . Buckley was inspired by music of some of his favourite artists . His Siouxsie and the Banshees influence is most obvious on songs like "Nightmares by the Sea" and "Witches Rave" The working title was intended by his mother and sole heir of his estate, Mary Guibert, to be rendered with parentheses, as Sketches for (My Sweetheart the Drunk) This was because Jeff's work was not finished, and therefore was just an outline, or "sketch" of what It was released in 1998. About Jeff Buckley - Jeffrey Scott Buckley was raised as Scott Moorhead . Buckley amassed a following in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan's East Village such as Sin-é . Over the following three years, the band toured extensively to promote the album, including concerts in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Australia . In 1996, they stopped touring and made sporadic attempts to record In 1997, Buckley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to resume work on the album . On May 29, 1997, he drowned during a spontaneous evening swim, fully clothed, in the Mississippi River .
