About Velvet Revolver : Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Scott Weiland were members of the group . Weiland left the band to rejoin Stone Temple Pilots in 2008 . Some critics initially described Velvet Revolver as a mere combination of Stone Temple Pilots and Guns N' Roses . With their single "Slither", they won the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance . In April 2008, Weiland abruptly left Velvet Revolver and reunited with Stone Temple Pilots .
