About Charlie Daniels - Charles Daniels was active as a singer and musician from the 1950s . He was best known for his number-one country hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" Daniels is a multi-instrumentalist . Daniels was born October 28, 1936, in Wilmington, North Carolina . He was raised on a musical diet that included Pentecostal gospel, local bluegrass bands and rhythm & blues . Daniels co-wrote "It Hurts Me" with his friend, producer Bob Johnston, under Bob's wife's name, Joy Byers . Daniels recorded his first solo album, Charlie Daniels, in 1971 . Charlie Daniels's music is influenced by genre(s) - bluegrass country rock blues gospel southern rock.
