About Isn't Anything : My Bloody Valentine's debut studio album was released on 21 November 1988 . Its innovative guitar and production techniques consolidated the experimentation of the band's preceding EPs . The album received rave critical reviews and reached number one on the UK Independent Albums Chart . The band's original vocalist Dave Conway left in 1987, to be replaced by Bilinda Butcher . Kevin Shields returned to their avant-garde roots after signing to Creation Records in 1988 . Most of the album was recorded in a studio in Wales . While recording the album over a period of two weeks, the band got by on about two hours sleep a night . Bilinda Butcher: "I'm usually trying to remember what I've been dreaming about when I'm singing" It had an affiliation to bands - Isn't Anything,My Bloody Valentine. Its music is influenced by genres - shoegaze avant-rock dream pop lo-fi noise pop experimental pop.
